Sometimes the grass is greener

Golf & Glory Professionals

David Green - Head PGA Professional David Green

David has been a Golf Professional for over 20 years and has been fortunate enough to have worked alongside, played with and received tuition from some of the country's leading Professionals. Since becoming qualified at the age of 21 at Princes Championship Links Course in Sandwich, he has taught a wealth of golfers with varying ability levels - from the beginner to Tournament Professional.

To underpin how the golfing community recognises David for both his playing ability and charisma, he has been Captain of PGA in Kent and is currently the Vice Chairman.  He is also one of Callaway's Staff Players.

As a player, David has been victorious in many local, regional and global PGA events. He has helds course records at several courses including that at his previous golf course, Croham Hurst, with a score of 61 (-9). He relishes the competitive side of the game and feels it essential to maintain a good standard of play so members and visitors have a sense of pride in their Professional's success.  It is, after all, mutually beneficial.

With his own golfing career, he has been coached and guided by some of the best in the UK - David Whelan of the Leadbetter Academy and more recently Clive Tucker, coach to European Tour players, David Howell and Graeme McDowell.  These Coaches have enhanced David's own golfing style which in turn have developed his own coaching techniques,  ethos and ideas.

David understands that learning the game of golf can be a daunting prospect and can be  viewed as a game of overly technical movements and complicated positions.  His style is one of simplicity.  He keeps it jargon-free and uses practical and visual aids to help retain new information.  His coaching style, therefore, revolves around the following:

· Teach the individual

· Work with the pupils constraints

· Keep it simple

· Ensure the pupil understands the reasons for the changes/technique

· Create an enjoyment factor while instilling confidence into the pupil

Tom Mulcahy - Head Assistant PGA Professional

Tom has been working in the golf industry since 1999 and a member of the PGA since 2005. As a keen sportsman Tom took to golf very quickly, and soon fell in love with the game, its traditions and history. He won the Club Championship at his first golf club, and after turning professional, played in numerous Surrey PGA events.

As a coach, Tom believes that improvement comes from enjoying the game and being aware of what works in a player's own unique swing. He focuses on the tactical side of the game, which is different for each individual depending on how they play. Using these methods, as a team, he believes player and coach can achieve goals quickly and the player's swing adapts naturally.

Tom also has vast experience in teaching seniors, juniors and ladies having run successful coaching programmes in each of these fields. He enjoys making sessions interesting and fun, believing real learning is achieved through doing and therefore keeps sessions relative to the game we play on the course.

Club Fitting is also one of Tom's passions. Having qualified as an Advanced Golfsmith Clubmaker, he has the knowledge and skills to make sure everyone is maximising their potential from their equipment and explains this knowledge simply and clearly.

Jake Oudes - Retail & Merchandising Assistant
